The history of stainless steel, the most modern of metals, had its beginnings in 1797 when a French chemist named Vauquelin discovered chromium in the mountains of Russia. His research determined that this metal was resistant to rust and corrosion. A century later, this metal was used to develop an entirely new kind of alloy, stainless steel. Comprised of carbon steel, chromium, and in improved grades, nickel.

Stainless steel offered strength and durability beyond regular steel. It wasn't until after 1920, however, that stainless steel was widely used in commercial products.

Stainless steel is a rust resistant material. It is available in two different grades Premium Grade, the finest grade available in the industry, is made of chromium and nickel. Basic Grade is made of chromium only. All stainless steel caskets feature velvet interior.

Hand crafted like fine furniture, each wood casket has its own unique graining pattern. The natural warmth and beauty of wood is available in a variety of types or species. The interior material of a wood casket is either velvet or crepe. The classification "hardwood," simply means that the wood comes from a leaf-bearing tree. "Softwood" comes from needle or cone-bearing trees. Therefore designation as a hardwood is not determined solely by the consistency or surface hardness of the wood itself, but the species of tree from which it came.

As with furniture, the species of wood used will affect both the appearance and cost of the casket. Depending on the size and style of the casket, between 150 and 225 board feet of solid lumber is used in its construction. The unique natural graining pattern found in each piece of hardwood makes every wood casket an original.

These All Wood Construction offerings are manufactured without the use of any metal.

Although this is done for religious purposes, the lack of metal makes these offerings suitable for cremation clients' consideration.
