Maxwell and Helt are two of the most trusted names in Clinton County when it comes to end-of-life care. Generations of families have turned to Maxwell and Helt in their time of need. The funeral homes continue today as a family owned business providing both traditional and contemporary burial and cremation services.
In 1994, Maxwell Funeral Home, Renovo, became part of the Heffner family owned funeral homes. Charles Maxwell continues to assist with serving families at the firm founded by his grandfather. The facility has been renovated and you’ll find it to be clean, spotless and comfortable.
In 1996, Helt Funeral Home, Lock Haven, became part of the Heffner family owned funeral homes. In 1998, the firm was renamed Helt Funeral Chapel and relocated to Mill Hall. It stands as the most modern funeral facility in Clinton County and the only funeral home with a chapel, fire place in the lobby, no steps and lots of off street parking.

Who owns the company? Married in 1976, Ernie and Laura Heffner own the company. Ernie, the president of the funeral homes, began his career in funeral service in 1974 when he joined his father in the family business. In 1981, John Katora joined the firm and today serves as V.P. of the family business. Both Ernie and John were mentored by Ernie’s late father, Jim Heffner, who instilled values not only about serving but specifically about caring for the deceased as well as the grieving family and friends. At Maxwell Funeral Home and Helt Funeral Chapel, those values continue today with a team of the very best, compassionate and caring staff in the profession led by Ben Blascovich.
