Lock Haven

Thomasine J. (Skovronsky) Meyer passed away peacefully at her home in Lock Haven on Christmas Day, her favorite holiday.

Thomasine had just turned 86 and was in home hospice for a brief time after a fall she sustained.

Born in Larksville, PA she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Eleanor (Baron) Skovronsky. Thomasine received her Registered Nursing (RN) degree and worked in Philadelphia at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.  While there, she met her future husband, Dr. Carl A. Meyer, Jr. and they were married on August 1, 1959.  With Carl serving in the Air Force, the couple moved several times while starting a family and ultimately settled in Lock Haven in 1966. Both were members of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lock Haven.

Thomasine had a keen interest in politics and was Campaign Manager for a Pennsylvania State Senator.  She continued to follow local and national politics throughout her life.

After raising five children, Thomasine went back to college and received her B.A. in Visual Arts from Lock Haven University, marking the beginning of a prolific period in her life where she created more than one hundred works of art in various forms, mostly painting and sculpture.

A dog lover, Thomasine’s favorite breed was the Pug, and she had several as loyal companions over the years.

When visiting with family, Thomasine loved to play the card game “canasta”.  She kept track of the score.  She and her daughter, Kate had a long-standing lead over other members of the family.

She is survived by a son, Carl A. Meyer, III of Galloway, NJ and two daughters, Carla Baron of North Hollywood, CA and Kathryn (Mark Oliphant) of Easton, MD as well as two grandsons, John Henry and Maxwell; a brother Tom Skovronsky of Washington State.

She is preceded in death by her husband Carl, a daughter Amy and a son Thomas.

A service will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery and Helt Funeral Chapel, Mill Hall at the convenience of the family.
