Thomas J. Allen, 79, of McElhattan died March 6, 2023 in Melbourne Beach, FL.

Born October 30, 1943 in Renovo a son of the late Thomas and Ethel (Goery) Allen.

After graduation he served in the U.S. Air Force for four years.  He moved to New England in 1965 and worked for the Dept. of Defense performing chemical analysis on submarine nuclear reactor coolants during the night and taking flight lessons during the day.

In 1968 he obtained his commercial pilots license and for two years delivered aircraft to Europe and Africa and other small countries not on the maps.

From 1970 – 2004 Tom worked for the FAA as an air traffic controller and manager retiring in 2004.

He was an avid hunter and enjoyed going on many trips out west and Newfoundland.

In his younger years he was a professional tennis player. He had many interesting stories to tell about his travels delivering those planes!

In 2020 he married his longtime friend from high school Sue Ann (Coup) and they enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. They spent the last few years as “snowbirds” in Florida.

Tom was a member of the McElhattan United Methodist Church, The Patriot Guard and the American Legion Riders.

Surviving are is wife; Sue, daughter Hannah (Peter) Lind; sons; Nicholas, Gary and Jeff and a step-son Ron (Kay) Girton also seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

His brother Terry (Pam) Allen of Lock Haven also survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his former wife, Rosemary “Romy” Allen.

In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the McElhattan United Methodist Church or the Wayne Twp., Fire Co.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sat., May 6, 2023 at the McElhattan United Methodist Church, 502 McElhattan Drive, McElhattan with Pastor Laura Gilbert officiating.

Friends and relatives will be received from Noon – 1:00 p.m. at the church.

Military honors will follow the service by the Jersey Shore Honor Guard.

Interment will be private at North Bend Cemetery.

Helt Funeral Chapel, Mill Hall has charge of arrangements.
