Listen to Obituary

RENOVO - Roberta Jane (Nuss) Scrimshaw, 76, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Friday, October 30, 2026.

Born June 14, 1950, in Munhall, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Dorothy (Blackie) Nuss. She graduated from Munhall High School in 1968. On May 15, 1981, she married Gordon Scrimshaw, with whom she shared 45 years of marriage.

Roberta dedicated much of her life to public service in Clinton County. A strong advocate for education, she spent a long career with PA CareerLink as the site administrator helping young people take their first steps toward a career, and she carried that same mission into her leadership of the Clinton County Summer Youth Program. She also worked for the Renovo Borough and the Clinton County Courthouse, among other municipal offices, and served on the board of Bucktail Medical Center.

Roberta was the person others turned to, whether in times of need or just for a good talk. She had a rare gift for listening, offering comfort, and giving advice. She loved to cook, had a famous sweet tooth, and was an avid reader and animal lover. Above all, she was the matriarch of her family, which meant everything to her.

She is survived by her husband, Gordon; her daughter, Carolyn Halter, and her husband, Robert Werts, of South Renovo; her son, Allan Scrimshaw, and his wife, Stephanie, of Woolrich; her grandchildren, Gordon Houser of Portland, OR; Renee Werts of Pittsburgh; Robert Werts Jr. of South Renovo; and Keira, Kason, and Alaina Scrimshaw of Woolrich; and her sister, Jean (Robert) McCarter of Kentucky.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Renovo Library, 317 Seventh St., Renovo, PA 17764. Donations may be mailed or dropped off at the library.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. The Maxwell Funeral Home, Renovo, 205 Fifth Street, Renovo is honored to serve the Scrimshaw family.
