Beech Creek

Gary Yarnell Young, Sr., 71, of Beech Creek passed away Monday, August 31, 2020 at UMPC Williamsport Regional Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of Carole A. (Chubb) Young who survives. They shared 50 years of marriage together.

Born August 22, 1949 in Lock Haven, Gary was the son of the late Clair F. and Bernice G. (Yarnell) Young, Sr. After graduating from Lock Haven High School, he served for two years in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He earned the rank of Lance Corporal after serving in Vietnam as a communications lineman.

He worked for several years at Hammermill Paper Company / International Paper.

Gary attended the First Church of Christ in Lock Haven where he was a Deacon for over 25 years. It was also where Carole and Gary were married on October 25, 1969.

As a lifelong member, Gary enjoyed the time he spent at the Beech Creek-Blanchard Volunteer Fire Company. He also loved being outdoors, gardening, hunting, fishing, and camping.

In addition to his wife, Gary is survived by his son, Gary Y. Young, Jr. of McElhattan; one daughter, Marcy D. (Scott) Browning of Chambersburg; two grandchildren, Collin (Taylor) Browning, and Ashlyn Browning; three brothers, Clair (Bonnie) Young Jr., Jay (Deanna) Young, and Ronald (Nancy) Young; one sister, Linda (Robert) Holter; mother-in-law, Betty Chubb; several nieces and nephews; and the dog that never left his side, Logan. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Darla Young.

A visitation for friends and family will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at Helt Funeral Chapel, Inc., 232 Hogan Blvd., in Mill Hall. A funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m.. on Friday, September 4, 2020 at Helt Funeral Chapel with Pastor Matt Kinley and Elder John Harvey officiating. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Lock Haven with Full Military Honors provided by the Jersey Shore Honor Guard.
