Ellen M. (Watt) Barner

Ellen M. (Watt) Barner, 71, of Shintown passed away Thursday, April 9, 2020 at Bucktail Medical Center in S. Renovo.

Born May 14, 1948 she was the daughter of the late George P. and Edna M. (Bach) Watt. In August of 1972, Ellen married Joseph F. Barner and the couple shared over 40 years together until his passing on May 22, 2013.

She was a longtime member of the Hyner United Methodist Church.

Ellen spent over 35 years teaching physical education at Bucktail Area High School in Renovo. She retired in 2001 and spent her time camping and traveling with her husband. As a member of the Nittany Lions Club and a huge fan of Penn State football, she worked as an usher alongside her husband at every home game. She also loved spending time with her nieces and nephews.

She was a member of several local organizations including the Elks, Sons of Italy, Eagles, Order of the Eastern Star, Retired Teachers’ Association, and the Chapman Township Fire Company.

Ellen is survived by one brother, George (Peggy) Watt, Jr.; two sisters, Jackie (Dean) Poole, and Mary Beth (Jeff) Disney; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Chris Watt, and John F. Coover; and one sister, Betty White.

A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date. Maxwell Funeral Home, 205 5th St., in Renovo has charge of arrangements.

Interment will be at the Germania Cemetery.
