Dr. Charles N. Hayes

LOCK HAVEN - Dr. Charles N. Hayes, 89, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at his residence.

Born November 11, 1936 in Klamath Falls, OR he was a son of the late Gaylord and Mildred (Quinton) Hayes.

On January 14, 1983 he married the former Maria D. Terneus. They celebrated 43 years of marriage together.

He received his PhD from Brown University. He enjoyed hiking, camping, traveling, chess, gardening and was an avid reader.

He served in the Army from 1960 – 1962.

Dr. Hayes retired after 44 years from Lock Haven University where he taught German and French. Earlier he taught at New York University.

Surviving are his loving wife, a nephew Corey Hayes a niece Lorrie Johnson and his Ecuadorean family especially Andrea Blankenship and Daniela Vernille.

He was preceded in death by a brother Kenneth Hayes.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026 at the Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall with Pastor Bill Corbin officiating.

Friends and relatives will be received from 12:30 – 1:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Following the service Maria will receive family and friends at her home.

Interment will be private.
