Donald J. “Fish” Yurkiewicz York, 94, of Ranshaw, was called home to our Lord on Friday, March 13, 2026. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Cero) York to whom he married on October 21, 1961 at our Lady’s Church in Mt. Carmel by Bishop Lawrence Schott.
Donald was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on February 23, 1932, a son of the late Anthony J. and Anna L. (Zwolinski) Yurkiewicz. Following graduation in 1952 from Coal Township High School, he entered the US Navy. After his service to our country, he returned home and worked for the family business York Window Cleaning Service.
He was proud that he played defense and was a running back on the 1952 Eastern Conference Championship winning Coal Township Football Team. In those days there was no State Champion, only East and West.
Donald was a super supporter of Shamokin football and basketball teams of which his son, Donald played at one time. His station wagon was always full of his friends going to the away games and at times with the cheerleaders that didn’t have a ride to the games.
His grandson, Zachary, was the most important part of his life. Dziadek and Busia spent many days babysitting, taking him to places of interest such as Thomas The Train, Knoebels Park, Crayola Factory, and Zach’s music and sporting events.
In addition to his wife, Mr. York is survived by a son, Donald J. York, Jr. and his wife Sarah of Dauphin, PA; a grandson, Zachary York; and a brother, Ronald York. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Robert, and Dr. Anthony York.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 20, 2026 at Church of the Holy Angels, 855 Scott Street, Kulpmont with his Priest, The Rev. Andrew Stahmer officiating. A viewing will be held from 10-11:00 AM Friday at the Church. Burial will be at 2:00 PM Monday, March 23, 2026 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, 60 Indiantown Gap Road, Annville with full military honors presented by the US Navy. Family and friends are encouraged to meet at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at 1:45 PM. Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Boulevard, Mill Hall is honored to serve the family.
